The University of Nigeria commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Formally opened on 7 October 1960, the University of Nigeria has three campuses in Enugu State– Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla. The University of Nigeria is the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous university in Nigeria, modelled upon the American educational system.  It was the first land-grant university in Africa and one of the five most reputed universities in Nigeria. The university has 18 Faculties including Engineering, Medicine, Business Administration, etc, and 105 academic departments. The university offers 108 undergraduate programs and 211 postgraduate programmes with a population of about 65,000 students and 7000 staff. The University’s houses one of the established Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACESPED), which carry-out impactful educational and research aimed at tackling the power and energy delivery challenges in Sub- Saharan Africa which includes: (1) Lack of access to reliable electric power supply,  (2.) Poor diffusion of renewable and alternative energy technologies, (3.) shortage of high-level skilled manpower to deploy and manage the renewable Energy systems. Using a student-centered, interactive and engaging educational curriculum cum robust Research & Development themes with strong practice orientation, ACE-SPED equips its graduates to deliver great impact on sustainable power and energy development in the region.  The University has two Minigrids infrastructures which can be used for training purposes. The University is already experienced with running several Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation related programmes and training of regional students from other sub-Saharan African Countries. Twelve of the programmes offered on this mobility are to be hosted at the University of Nigeria.
